February

First of Summer on the radio
Late-night lattes to go
The last first time
Of waiting in line

Memory fogged by the midnight sun
Tomorrow finally won
The Past tugged at my sleeves
And told me to sleep

Days and nights in a dizzying blur
Being stuck in that infinite hour
Back and forth and back
‘Til things turned black

Parked car. Night sky.
The words still make me high
But it was the last first time
Of waiting in line

Of waiting for the right time.
